Director Operations TUI fly Benelux


Reporting to the Managing Director of TUI fly Benelux, the Director of Operations is responsible for executing the operations strategy for TUI fly Benelux, for identifying improvement opportunities and driving change and transformation in the operations field and for delivering efficient operations.
The Director Operations has final responsibility over the Operations Control Centre, Crew Scheduling and Social Crew Management teams and activities. On the one hand you will ensure the delivery of cost efficient and effective operations. On the other hand you will identify improvement opportunities and drive improvement projects via effective change and transformation management.
In the end you will ensure the delivery of customer friendly operations, cost efficiency, performance management and engagement and delivery of the operational objectives of TUI fly Benelux

What You will be doing:

As Director Operations you are responsible for translating the TUI fly Benelux strategy into clear objectives and KPIs for the operations field. This includes the Operations Control Centre, Crew Scheduling and Social Crew Management teams and activities across the Belgian and Dutch airline, covering approx. 2.000 employees. You will deliver an operational strategy that contributes to the TUI Western Region KPIs Employee Engagement, EBITA and Net Promotor Score. Moreover, as chairperson of the Airline Performance Meeting which is responsible for information sharing across all departments you have a key role in improving collaboration across the organisation.
With a continuous improvement mind-set you will identify optimisation opportunities in the domain of engagement, cost efficiency and customer satisfaction in the operational field. This includes aiming for operational excellence and for a stable social climate amongst ground staff and crew. You will monitor the operational performance and efficiency of the Benelux airline and you will identify new technologies and methodologies to continually improve the ways of working. You will support business growth by challenging legacy, status quo, custom and practice in order to drive efficiencies and you will decide on the best level of prioritisation. You will present proposals to the TUI fly Benelux Management Committee and drive the change and transformation projects to deliver the identified initiatives.
Simultaneously you will ensure efficient delivery of the daily operations by strong people management and profound understanding of the operational processes and ways of working.  You will coach your direct reports in order to further develop their teams as efficiently as possible, to ensure optimal employee and system performance and to deliver projects and operations that meet and where possible exceed the minimum requirements.
You will encourage a culture where people can constructively challenge the status quo looking for ways to do things better, faster and cheaper. You will assess the impact of new initiatives from an efficiency, process and risk perspective while effectively maintaining and controlling the operations budget. Moreover you will ensure that the Operations Department is well connected with other departments, promoting an active cross departmental interaction and exchange.


What we are looking for:

  • Significant leadership experience in a large, geographically spread, customer facing, technical or operational environment
  • Affinity with both strategy and operations and the ability to balance strategic and operational priorities
  • Enthusiasm to continuously challenge status quo and to identify the right improvement opportunities at the right time
  • Extensive (digital) change and transformation skills and ability to convince and motivate people
  • Ability to operate with multiple business customers and manage key stakeholders
  • An effective communicator with the proven ability to influence others, develop a strong network of contacts and gain support and commitment from line managers
